Investigation Underway Following Death of Lydia Marzan Near New York Botanical Garden
Police and city medical examiners are investigating the death of Lydia Marzan, a 72-year-old woman who was found deceased near the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx earlier this week, according to officials with the New York City Police Department.
Authorities say officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday reporting an unresponsive woman in the area of Southern Boulevard and East Fordham Road in the Belmont neighborhood. When police and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, they found the woman lying on the ground and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Police later identified the woman as Lydia Marzan, who officials say lived about a mile and a half away, near Walton Avenue and East 182nd Street in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx. Investigators have not indicated how or why she came to be in the area where she was found.
At this time, authorities say the cause of death has not yet been determined, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to establish further details. Police noted that there were no immediate signs of suspicious circumstances, though the investigation remains ongoing as standard procedure.
The discovery has drawn concern from nearby residents and passersby in the busy area surrounding the Botanical Garden and Southern Boulevard. As investigators continue their work, officials are urging the public to avoid speculation and allow the medical examiner and law enforcement to complete their findings.
Further information is expected to be released once the investigation and autopsy are completed.
