Austin Community Mourns the Tragic Loss of Jonhatan Rodriguez
The city of Austin, Texas, is heartbroken over the sudden death of 19-year-old Jonhatan Rodriguez in a fatal rear-end collision on one of its busiest highways.
On Tuesday morning, December 16, 2025, a two-vehicle crash occurred on the southbound lanes of MoPac Expressway (Loop 1), near the U.S. Highway 183 interchange and Anderson Lane exit. According to the Austin Police Department, the incident involved a rear-end collision between two southbound vehicles.
Jonhatan Rodriguez, one of the drivers, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:27 a.m. The other driver remained at the location and fully cooperated with investigators. The southbound lanes were closed for several hours, causing significant traffic disruptions.
The Austin Police Department is continuing its investigation into the crash. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers on our roadways, particularly in high-traffic areas like MoPac.
At just 19 years old, Jonhatan Rodriguez’s life was cut far too short, leaving his family, friends, and the Austin community in profound mourning.
